A Time For Us

OUTSIDE

At least now I know where I stand;

I've studied and learned my part.

She may need my strength,

Or the warmth of my hand,

But she never will need my heart.

I think I can help, as a friend;

For that's all I ever can be.

I'll cheer her a bit

With the roses I send,

And find the right words

To help her heart mend.

But, while to this labor of love I attend,

Please, God, don't forget about me.

INTERSECTIONS

She lives in two worlds,

As do I.

On rare occasions (but all too rare)

Our worlds coincide

And we share for a space

A moment, an hour, a day.

And I am struck with wonder

At joy and peace

I've never known before.

And then, too soon, too soon,

Reality intrudes;

That other world beckons,

Wherein live the heartless tasks and simple duties

Which shall not be ignored.

And so we part,

Promising to meet again

Very soon.

And in this other life we find the time

To think of each other,

And miss each other,

And love each other,

Until next time.
