Carthage

Another Age comes to an end,
and I find myself more alone than I've ever been.

I claw at the ground beneath me
as I beg for my eyes to rain down
their acid tears.

My mind reels
as all of the good of these years
is beaten down by
lies and omissions.

I tear at my chest,
trying to claw this cancerous heart
from my breast.

Now, as I watch for an end,
I wait in this place.

In this,
The Carthage of my Heart,
I have discovered an ancient truth:

The greatest Curse in life
is being the one to love more.
