Interview

Well, well. 63 years old. Wow, what a thrill. I can eat small, cheap meals at Denny's. I think I qualify for a discount at AMC Theaters, too. But I always go for their late afternoon shows, which are even cheaper than the seniors price anyway. My grandfather, my brother and my wife all died at 55. In my family, we love tradition. After 55, the next most popular age for "passing on" is 67.   So,  by making it this far, I figure I've bought myself a few more years.

But if I were to depart this world tomorrow, I couldn't be TOO disappointed. (I'm not sure anyone else would be, either.) I've covered a lot of ground in 60-odd years. I've traveled to 49 of the 50 states (I missed Alaska, somehow), and at last count I've been to 63 foreign countries. I've had more jobs than I can remember; been happily married once; been ALMOST married several times; and I have two great sons (pictured on our Eric and Chris pages). I don't have any grandkids yet, but otherwise it's been a fun ride. I've never achieved fame or wealth, but I've had a lot of fun and happiness, which are much more important.

Physically, I'm kind of a mess; 63 going on 132. I'm sedentary, I smoke, I drink WAY too much coffee, I never work out, and I'm either overweight or undertall. (I'd be an ideal weight if I were 6'9".) But I've heard of 30 year-old joggers being run down and killed by drunk drivers; that'll never happen to me. My job entails sitting in front of a computer for about 8 hours a day. My hobby also entails sitting in front of a computer for about 8 hours a day. Maybe I'm in a rut. I never have enough money for luxuries, but I always seem to scrape by. All in all, I have very little to complain about.

Ropes Family Crest

I still enjoy doing some creative writing from time to time. (It's a family trait. My sons are both better writers than I am.) And I love to hear people's reactions to anything I've written. If you have any comments or questions, I'd be delighted if you'd email me at .
