Our family outing for the July 4 weekend (2004) was a trip to the vastly improved Jacksonville Zoo. Yes, it was hot; Jax is like that in July. I think I sweated off a few pounds. But it was worth it. It doesn't compare with the zoos in San Diego or New York, of course, but it's still really a great place. (And we don't have their prices or their crime rate, either.) The new jaguar exhibit alone is worth the price of admission. The animals all seemed very healthy and (with the exception of one unhappy lynx) very content. If you're in the area and have a chance to go, we'd recommend it highly.
